Ingredients for Grinch Rice Krispie treats arranged on a countertop.
  • Rice Cereal – we’ve used both the national and generic brands. The results are similar.
  • Marshmallows – use mini marshmallows because the melt faster.
  • Butter – unsalted butter.
  • Vanilla Extract – adds a professional baker-quality touch. We’ve tried them with and without vanilla and it definitely makes a difference.

FAQ

Can I make Grinch Rice Crispy Treats ahead of time?

Sure! You can make and decorate Grinch Rice Crispy Treats up to 2 days in advance. Store them in an airtight container. Just know that they’ll be better if served the same day.

Do I have to use frosting for the Grinch’s heart?

Nope. We chose frosting because you can make your own red frosting or buy it. Plus, you can draw a candy heart any size you want. Candy hearts aren’t always readily available.

Can I use store-bought frosting?

Absolutely. While we think homemade frosting tastes way better than the store-bought stuff, we can’t deny the convenience of premade frosting. All you have to do is add
