How to Make St. Patrick’s Day Sugar Cookies
Follow steps 1 through 7 on the sugar cookie recipe card.
After chilling, use a clover-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the cookies. Place them on a lined baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between each one.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

In a medium bowl, mix the white frosting with a few drops of green food coloring until you get the color you want.
Add the frosting to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
Pipe the frosting over the cookie until it’s completely covered. Continue this step until all cookies are decorated. Enjoy!

Top Tip
You MUST chill the dough before cutting the cookies because it makes it easier to roll the dough and helps the cookies hold their shape. Just 20-30 minutes in the fridge will do the trick.
I like to chill the cookies after I cut them out, as the dough starts to warm quickly after you roll it out.
Storage
Unfrosted sugar cookies will stay fresh at room temperature for up to 5 days. While frosted sugar cookies (that contain milk) will need to be refrigerated and will also stay fresh for up to 5 days.

FAQs
Certainly! You can make the dough up to 2 days in advance to keep it in the refrigerator. That’s if you plan on making the cookies right away. Or, for longer storage, you can freeze it.
Here’s how. Roll the dough into a disc, wrap it in plastic, and place it in a freezer-safe bag. It’ll keep for a few months. Then, when you’re ready to use it, just thaw in the fridge overnight, cut, and bake.
You don’t have to. But, for the best results, I highly recommend that you chill the dough. It prevents the cookies from spreading. I can guarantee the cookies will spread if you do not chill the dough.
For the tastiest cookies, I recommend a thick buttercream or American buttercream frosting recipe like the one provided in the recipe card. If you want the best decorating option, you’ll need to go with royal icing. See our Easy Halloween Sugar Cookies for more options.
