Why You’ll Love Spider Halloween Cheese Balls

Oreo-coated spider cheeseballs with candy eyes and pretzel legs arranged on a white plate.
  • When you set a tray of these Halloween spider balls out, you’re going to hear stuff like “OMG! These are so cute and delicious,” all night long. They’re spooky, playful, and party-perfect without being complicated.
  • Make them a day in advance so you can actually, you know, enjoy the holiday festivities for once. No chaos, just a simple recipe, you can make in no time.
  • We made them individually portioned, which kids always love. There’s no fighting over who gets the candy eyes or the last pretzel leg. Plus, you can make just enough for everyone. That means no leftovers and less cleanup to worry about.

Ingredients

  • Cream Cheese

How to Make Spider Halloween Cheese Ball

Place 10 cookies in a zip-lock bag and crush them into small pieces with a rolling pin. Set them aside.

Add the remaining cookies to a food processor and blend into fine crumbs. Transfer them to a medium bowl and set it aside.

In another medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar until smooth and well combined.

Stir the crushed cookies into the cream cheese mixture, then cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Once chilled, scoop out about three tablespoons of the mixture and roll it in the cookie crumbs to form a ball. Place each ball on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Break a pretzel stick in half and stick it into the ball to create the spider legs. Repeat this process with three additional pretzels to make a total of eight legs.

Melt the chocolate and transfer it to a sandwich bag. Snip off one corner, then use a tiny amount of chocolate to attach the candy eyes to each spider. Repeat until all the cheeseballs are decorated. Time to enjoy!

Top Tip

I like to chill the cheeseball mixture before shaping the spider balls. This makes it firmer and easier to make uniform balls. Even 10-15 minutes in the fridge helps.

Storage

Before storage, remove the pretzel “legs” so they don’t soggy. Then place them in a covered food storage container and they’ll last for up to 3 days.

FAQs

Can I make them in advance?

Absolutely! Shape and mix the spider cheeseball mixture up to a couple days in advance. But, you’ll want to wait to add the pretzel legs, eyes, and Oreo crumb coating until you’re ready to serve.

What can I serve with them?

Aside from the pretzel legs, you can also serve them with animal crackers, wafer cookies, and apple slices.
