These Santa Hat Brownies are your new go-to holiday dessert. Here’s why. With brownies and frosting, they’re as quick and easy as they are festive, cute, and most importantly, delicious.
And by the way, when I say quick, I mean they come together faster than Santa delivering presents on Christmas Eve.

Why You’ll Love Santa Hat Brownies
- I love the holidays, but they can be stressful, so whenever I have a chance to sort of cheat with easy ideas like this one, I take it. Simply bake a batch of brownies, cut into triangles, pipe on the frosting, and bam! You’re done!
- They are so cute and festive!
- With that rich, deep, chocolate-y flavor combined with sweet, creamy frosting, you’ll have a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Everyone (at least everyone I know) loves a good brownie.
Ingredients
- Brownies – boxed or your favorite recipe.
- Frosting – store-bought, our recipe, or your favorite recipe.
See the recipe card for quantities.
How to Make Santa Hat Brownies
Cut the brownies into triangles.
In a small bowl, color half of the vanilla frosting with red gel food coloring, adding as much as needed to achieve the desired color.
Place the white frosting in a piping bag fitted with a star tip and set it aside.
Place the red frosting in a separate piping bag fitted with a star tip and set it aside.

Using the piping bag with the white frosting, pipe a row of small stars along the bottom edge of the brownie.
Switch to the piping bag with the red frosting and pipe from the bottom to the top, swirling as you go, and leave some room at the top.
Finish the brownie by piping a single white star at the very top. Repeat this process until all Santa hats are done. Enjoy.
Top Tip
Allow the brownies to cool completely before adding the frosting.
Storage
Store leftover frosted santa hat brownies in an airtight containter in the refrigerator.
FAQs
We used our thick American buttercream recipe for this recipe. So, any frosting, even cream cheese frosting that’s thick and holds its shape will work nicely.
Absolutely, you can freeze unfrosted brownies for up to 2 months. Just wrap the brownie slab or cut brownies in plastic wrap, and place them in freezer bags first.
Only if they’re frosted. Unfrosted brownies can stay on the counter at room temperature for a couple days.
