How to Make Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies
After chilling, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the cookies. Place them on a lined baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between each one.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

In a medium bowl, mix half of the white frosting with a few drops of pink food coloring until you get the color you want.
Add the pink frosting to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
Add the remaining white frosting to another piping bag fitted with a star tip.

Pipe the frosting over the cookie until it’s completely covered. Continue this step until all cookies are decorated. Enjoy!
Top Tip
Some say chilling the dough is optional, but I’m gonna have to disagree…big time. Chilling the dough makes it easier to cut out shapes, and it helps them hold their shape while baking. Just pop them in the fridge for like 20 minutes.
Now, I also like to chill the cookies after I cut them out, as the dough starts to get warm rather quickly.
Storage
You can store unfrosted sugar cookies at room temperature for up to 5 days. For frosted cookies (with milk in the frosting), you can store them in the fridge for up to 5 days as well.
And if you want to store them for a longer period of time, you can freeze them for up to 3 months by placing them in a freezer bag.
FAQs
Sure. I like to roll it into a disc, wrap it in plastic, and store it in the fridge (up to 3 days) or the refrigerator (up to 3 months).
You can make your cookies any which way your heart desires. With that said, homemade frosting tastes at least 10 times better. However, store-bought options work in a pinch.
Yes, you should definitely chill the dough. While some say this is an optional step, I disagree. It ensures a clean cut on the cookie cutouts and prevents them from spreading too much. Otherwise, you end up with shapeless cookie stuff rather than a perfect heart-shaped cookie everyone will instantly recognize.
