How to Make Creamy Avocado Dip

Add the avocado, sour cream, lime juice, olive oil, garlic, cilantro, diced onion, cumin, and salt to a food processor.

Blend until completely smooth and creamy, about 20โ€“30 seconds.

Scrape down the sides, then add 2 tablespoons of water and blend again until fully combined. Taste and adjust salt as needed. Add the remaining tablespoon of water, if needed, to reach the desired consistency.

Serve immediately with tortilla chips or chill in the fridge for a few hours.

Top Tip

For best flavor and texture, use ripe avocados. They should be slightly soft when you squeeze them.

Storage

Avocado dip will stay fresh for up to 2 days when stored in fridge in an airtight container. You can prevent it from browning too quickly by applying a strip of plastic wrap directly to the surface.

Can you make avocado dip in advance?

You can, but I prefer to make it the same day. A few hours in advance is great because those flavors get more intense.

What can I serve with creamy avocado dip?

I prefer tortilla chips (and nothing else). But you can serve it with pretzels, crackers, and hard veggies like carrot sticks and celery sticks.
