The 1.8 liter Zojirushi NP-HCC18XH is an induction heating system rice cooker. It is small, measuring just 15.5 x 11 x 9.5 inches, and weighs just 11 pounds. Rice cookers are a very convenient small kitchen appliance. Rice is straightforward to mess up. Instead of fooling around with trying to cook rice manually, a rice cooker does it for you.

Rice cookers take all of the guess work out of cooking. It saves you time and frustration. The Zojirushi brand is one of, if not the most trusted name in rice cookers. Below, I’ve explored this rice cooker by researching this and other rice cookers.

TRIPLE HEAT SOURCE RICE & PORRIDGE COOKER

What I really like about Zojirushi products is that they are made with the user in mind. Like other Zojirushi rice cookers, the NP-HCC18XH has a digital display. The display shows the white rice and other cereal cooking options, i.e., porridge. The display screen is large enough to see the settings that you selected.

One of the main things that customers compliment Zojirushi for is convenience. For example, the delay timer. This setting lets you set your rice cooker to start cooking at your choosing. Perhaps, you set the delay timer to start cooking an hour before the end of your shift. When you arrive home you’re met with the amazing aroma of freshly cooked rice.

The keep-warm setting is perfect if you are having dinner guests or a party. If anyone wants seconds (or thirds), the rice will still be warm. The texture will be like that of freshly cooked rice well after it finished cooking.

You can cook more than just white rice in your Zojirushi rice cooker. You can cook brown rice, GABA brown rice, mixed rice, sweet rice, jasmine rice, sushi rice, and even porridge (grain cereal like oatmeal). The white rice gives you three texture options: regular, softer, and harder. The “quick cooking” option cooks white rice faster. I’ve read reviews for other Zujirushi products where customers claimed that the “quick cooking” yields rice that is a little harder than rice cooked using the regular white rice setting.

A feature that separates the Zojirushi NP-HCC18XH from other rice cooker brands is the triple heat sources. Those heat sources are at the bottom, sides, and the lid. This ensures that your rice is cooked through evenly.

Compared to Other Rice Cookers

On your journey to find your new rice cooker, you will certainly come across models that offer a different feature or value than the NP-HCC18XH. It is manufactured by a brand that is regarded as one of the best when it comes to rice cookers. Even still, you may want to explore other options to make sure that you are choosing wisely. To assist you in that endeavor, we’ve researched another rice cooker.

vs Panasonic SR-DE103 5-Cup (Uncooked) “Fuzzy Logic” Rice Cooker

The comparable Panasonic SR-DE103 is a 5-cup rice cooker. While Panasonic is more recognized for its televisions and such, it certainly doesn’t make a bad rice cooker. It has lots of feedback and there are many customers who are satisfied with it. The Zojirushi NP-HCC18XH doesn’t have the most reviews, but previous Zojirushi models, like the Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 5, have a large number of very good reviews.

The Panasonic has many of the same features with the exception of the white rice options. While the Zojirushi has textured white rice options (regular, softer, harder), these features are absent from the Panasonic rice cooker.

The Panasonic SR-DE103 is priced with customer value in mind, but the price may be an indication of a drastic difference in quality. Several customers reported long-term durability issues, i.e. inner pan coating peeling off, and water warming up but not cooking.

Summary

The Zojirushi NP-HCC18XH seems to be a good machine and the Zojirushi name is certainly one that is a representation of quality. It is a small pod-shaped kitchen appliance that will take up very little space on your countertop. It is feature-rich. You can cook rice away from your home with its delay settings. The keep-warm feature makes this the perfect appliance when you host dinners. I think that this is a great rice cooker option for those that are comfortable with its features, especially if it fits within their budget.
