Total Time: 38 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 Box of Devil Food Cake Mix
  • 3 Large Eggs
  • 1/3 Cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 10 Oreo Cookies Crushed
  • 1 16 Ounce Container of Chocolate Frosting
  • Halloween Candies
  • Black and Red Writable Icing
  • Halloween Cupcake Liners

Instructions

  • Start with a large bowl and add the cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Mix with hand mixer for about 2 minutes until all ingredients are combined.
  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. (See note)
  • Line a cupcake pan with the Halloween liners or any liners you have. Fill the liners a 1/3 full or about 2 tablespoons. (See note)
  • Bake the cupcakes for about 16-18 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. When cupcakes are done place them on a cooling rack and cool completely.
  • Here is where the fun begins. Take a sandwich bag and add the oreo cookies. Using a rolling pin or large can, crush the cookies until you have fine crumbs. (See note)
  • Frost the cupcakes with the chocolate frosting. Make sure that the frosting is at least room temperature for better spreadability. Then add some cookie crumbs to cover the surface of the cupcake. This will give the cupcake the look of dirt on the ground. The kids will love this part. Lol
  • Then add any spooky decorations you have. (See note)

Notes

  • Follow the directions from the cake mix you purchase. The one I got said to bake at 325 since I was using a dark cupcake pan.
  • I found if I filled the liners half way there will be no room to add the cookie crumbs for the dirt. By only filling the liners a 1/3 of the way it still leaves you room to decorate.
  • You don’t want large pieces of cookie since these are cupcakes you don’t have a lot of surface. I like the crumbs to be a mixture of fine crumbs and a few big pieces like the size of rice or peas.
  • I found a small kit that had small tomb stones, monster fingers, skull heads, and large eye balls at walmart.
