Ham Cheese and Caramelized Onion Slider

These little ham and cheese with caramelized onion sliders are the best little miniature sandwiches you’ll ever eat (of course we’re a little biased here). They are delicious. And what’s more, they are simple to make.

Ingredients

  • 12 Slices of Smoked Ham
  • 12 Slices of Gouda Cheese
  • 12 Bake and Serve Rolls
  • 2 Medium Onions Chopped
  • 1 Teaspoon Sugar
  • ½ Teaspoon Salt
  • ½ Cup Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil

Instructions

  • Start by chopping up the onions. (See note) Add the oil to a medium pan on high heat. Add the chopped onions and ½ teaspoon of salt cook for 5 minutes to start sweating the onions.
  • Add ¼ cup of the water to the pan and lower the heat to medium low and cook until the water evaporates about 5 minutes. Add the sugar and cook for 2 minutes until the sugar dissolves. Add another ¼ cup of water and cook until evaporates about 5 minutes. Continue to cook for another 15 minutes until the onions are a deep golden brown color. Stir occasionally to prevent the onions from burning.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Cut the rolls in half (horizontally). On the bottom half of the roll add 1 slice of ham, 1 slice of cheese, and ½ teaspoon of caramelized onion. Add the top and put the slider in an 8x8 baking dish.
  • Continue with step 4 until all rolls are in the baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 13-15 minutes. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

• Tip for cutting onions if you freeze the onions for 15 minutes then chop them it won’t make your eyes water. You can also use a mandolin if you have one to speed up the cutting process. • This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled for a big party. These are best eaten hot. • They can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 days. • They can be reheated in the microwave for 20 seconds.
