These little ham and cheese with caramelized onion sliders are the best little miniature sandwiches you’ll ever eat (of course we’re a little biased here). They are delicious. And what’s more, they are simple to make.

Ingredients

  • 12 Slices of Smoked Ham
  • 12 Slices of Gouda Cheese
  • 12 Bake and Serve Rolls
  • 2 Medium Onions Chopped
  • 1 Teaspoon Sugar
  • ½ Teaspoon Salt
  • ½ Cup Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil

Instructions

  1. Start by chopping up the onions. (See note) Add the oil to a medium pan on high heat. Add the chopped onions and ½ teaspoon of salt cook for 5 minutes to start sweating the onions.
  2. Add ¼ cup of the water to the pan and lower the heat to medium low and cook until the water evaporates about 5 minutes. Add the sugar and cook for 2 minutes until the sugar dissolves. Add another ¼ cup of water and cook until evaporates about 5 minutes. Continue to cook for another 15 minutes until the onions are a deep golden brown color. Stir occasionally to prevent the onions from burning.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  4. Cut the rolls in half (horizontally). On the bottom half of the roll add 1 slice of ham, 1 slice of cheese, and ½ teaspoon of caramelized onion. Add the top and put the slider in an 8x8 baking dish.
  5. Continue with step 4 until all rolls are in the baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 13-15 minutes. Serve hot and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

• Tip for cutting onions if you freeze the onions for 15 minutes then chop them it won’t make your eyes water. You can also use a mandolin if you have one to speed up the cutting process. • This recipe can be easily doubled or tripled for a big party. These are best eaten hot. • They can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 days. • They can be reheated in the microwave for 20 seconds.
