Appearance and Size

The size and appearance for both models in the v3835 vs v3880 comparison is very important. With most vacuum sealer models the orientation is horizontal rather than vertical. With these two models it was reversed. In a complete design revamp, these models take up much less horizontal space, thus leaving a relatively small footprint.

The V3835 measures 17” wide x 10” tall x 5” deep, while the v3880 measures 17″ wide x 11″ tall x 6″ deep. They are roughly the same size. It would be best to measure out your available space to determine the best place to locate your vacuum sealer. I would store mine next to the blender on the counter and under the cabinet.

The design for both models has been updated as well. They both look modern with their stainless exterior.

Power and Performance

You will be happy with the performance of either model in the FoodSaver v3835 vs v3880 vacuum sealer comparison. They both come with several automatic settings. You can begin to seal foods in a matter of seconds. The process is very easy, you simply fill the bag, and insert it into the machine. The machine does the rest. The vacuum process starts automatically. Both models have automatic wet/dry detection. This is a very convenient feature because dry foods like cereal require that less air is removed from the bag than with wet foods.

There are also buttons for manual control. Both come with a pulse button that allows you to stop the vacuum process at any time. You can also manually select the speed – low or high. This gives you complete control over the amount of air that is removed from the bag.

Control Panel

Though the control panels look different, the functions are pretty much the same for both models. There are indicator lights for wet and dry, speed, and a light indicator to let you know when the tray is full.

There is a button on either model that gives you the option to use the vacuum attachment for FoodSaver canisters and containers. There is also a button available for marinating on both models – this allows you marinate in minutes rather than hours. On the V3880, the buttons are raised, whereas the buttons are flat with the V3835.

Bag Storage and Cutting

Both units have a compartment to store rolls. There is also a cutter that allows you to make the perfect sized bag every time.

Accessories

The FoodSaver V3835 comes with an 11″ roll, 3 quart bags and 2 gallon bags. It’s a different story when it comes to the V3880. Some customers claim that they received a complete “Master Chef” kit including bags, rolls, canisters and other storage containers. Perhaps at certain stores, you can find the entire kit, but most customers claim to only have received bags and rolls. Canisters and containers are available for purchase separately.

Warranty

Both of these vacuum sealers come with a 5-year limited warranty.

Customer Reviews…

FoodSaver V3835

Happy customers of the v3835 say that this machine is a time and money saver. But there were some mixed reviews for the v3835. The biggest complaint that I came across was some customers had issues with the machine detecting the bag. Other customers have absolutely no problems with this feature. After reading through many reviews, I think that this model is a quality vacuum sealer.

FoodSaver V3880

The V3880 has a lot to offer and there are definitely a lot of customers that praise it for its usability. But the V3880 had some complaints too. Some customers had a poor experience with the automatic bag detection function. However, there were many whom expressed their satisfaction. I’ve come across reviews that stated how this model worked perfectly every time.

After researching my fair share of vacuum sealers, I’d have to say that there are some quirks to using them. Overall, though, there are many customers whom are satisfied with the performance of food savers and that includes both of these models.

Summary

The FoodSaver V3835 vs V3880 features two very good options. These machines have the same features and accessories (unless you can find the “Master Chef” kit). They look nearly identical. The performance will be nearly identical. Based on what I’ve come across, I’d say flip a coin. You’re likely to be happy with either choice.
