The Cuckoo CRP-HV0667F is a Korean induction heat pressure cooker. I’ve reviewed several Japanese style rice cookers like this one by Zojirushi. At a glance Japanese and Korean rice cookers look identical. It isn’t until you look under the hood that you can realize the differences.

Typically, Korean styled rice cookers gelatinize rice starches more completely than their Japanese counterparts. This results in rice that is a little healthier. It is a small appliance measuring 14.3 x 10.4 x 10 inches and weighs just 12.4 pounds. Cuckoo brand rice cookers are among the best and most popular in Korea – a whopping 70% of the market. So if you buy, you know that you are getting a product that is made by a reputable brand. I’m going to let you know up front, this rice cooker is definitely an investment. But, good rice cookers are.

NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR TRADITIONAL KOREAN RICE

Aesthetically, pod-like rice cookers like the Cuckoo CRP-HV0667F are attractive to me. This may or may not be important to you, but I believe that when all other things are equal, looks should be the deciding factor. This rice cooker looks good to me. This particular rice cooker is available in two colors: white/silver and white/orange. The color is neutral enough to match most kitchens.

The capacity is 6-cups. Like most rice cookers on the market today, this rice cooker doesn’t just cook white rice. It can also cook GABA, brown, multi-grain rice, and porridge (like oatmeal, grits, and farina).

The Cuckoo CRP-HV0667F utilizes the latest induction heating technology. Induction heating is more efficient than standard hot plate rice cookers. Through a magnetic field, heat is generated through the coils, and heat through the entire pot. This process is very close to the traditional Korean iron pot cooking. The end result is rice that is slightly more nutrient rich.

A feature that is truly unique to the Cuckoo brand is the different inner and outer pot coating options. The outside of the Cuckoo CRP-HV0667F cooking pan is titanium coated, while the inside is diamond coated. These coatings serve several purposes: distribute heat across the surface of the pot, insulate the pot, and help with durability. These coatings also contribute to the taste and texture of your rice.

Another cool feature, though not useful to most American consumers is the Korean voice user navigation.

Impressively there are some other Cuckoo rice cooker models that are said to be able to prepare rice for two people in just 13 minutes. Certainly, the cooking times would be the same or similar.

Summary

The Cuckoo brand represents the Cadillac of rice cookers. At least that is the case in Korea where it is the most coveted rice cooker. Rice cookers aren’t created equally, the Cuckoo model CRP-HV0667F is the perfect rice cooker for Korean style rice.

A rice that is more gelatinized than what you would find on Japanese rice cookers. Some may find that rice cookers in this range are a bit costly. But its price is a reflection of its quality. If you still aren’t sure about this model, but want a Korean style rice cooker, then you might want to check out the Cucko CRP-G1015F.
