The Bonavita bv1800 vs. bv1900ts coffee maker comparison features two excellent coffee makers. Honestly, before doing a ton of research on coffee makers over the years, I had no clue how nuanced these machines really were.

For example, I had no idea that temperature changes could affect the outcome of your coffee. I had no idea that these machines even had a showerhead.
There are a lot of differences between these two machines, including the appearance, watts, and even the carafe. Below, I’ve outlined these differences and reported my findings.

Size and Appearance
These two machines look pretty similar. They are both clad in stainless steel. I have a penchant for stainless steel appliances. They usually look good. The BV1800 is the more basic-looking machine. It is essential and minimalist. In my opinion, it’s evident that more attention was paid to aesthetics. It doesn’t say for sure, but it looks like brushed stainless steel. It is undoubtedly more toned down.
The Bonavita bv1800 measures 13.2 x 8.7 x 14 inches, while the Bonavita bv1900ts measures 12.4 x 6.8 x 12.2 inches. This will take up a decent amount of space on your countertop, but it’s worth it to coffee lovers.
Power and Performance
Both coffee makers in the Bonavita bv1800 vs. bv1900ts are German-made and certified by the SCAA. The SCAA stands for Specialty Coffee Association of America. This is a big deal. Not all coffee makers can meet the standards set by the SCAA.
The heater for the Bonavita bv1800 is 1400 watts and is capable of raising the water temperature to 205 degrees in minutes. The Bonavita bv1900ts is more powerful. Its heater is 1500 watts which means that you will get up to the perfect brewing temp a bit faster. The water is only released when the temperature is right.
Both are engineered for optimal water and coffee ground contact time. The showerheads are designed in such a way to ensure complete saturation. The Bonavita bv1900ts however come with a flat filter basket and larger showerhead, which means that you will get even better coffee ground saturation and more uniform extraction.
Warranty
Both German coffee makers come with a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Water Tank
The water tank for both is easy to fill with easily readable markings. Both coffee makers have an 8-cup, 40-ounce capacity. While we usually think of a cup as being 8 ounces, these machines refer to 5-ounce cups.
Carafe and Keep Warm
The Bonavita bv1800 comes standard with a glass carafe. The glass carafe works with the auto keep-warm function. There is a separate 55-watt heater that the carafe rests on to keep your coffee warm for up to 2 hours. You do have the option to get bv1800 with a stainless steel carafe as well. This upgrade is going to cost you, however.
The Bonavita bv1900ts comes standard with a stainless steel carafe. Because of the double-walled carafe there is no need for a carafe heater.
Pre-infusion
Only one coffee maker in the Bonavita bv1800 vs. bv1900ts comes with optional pre-infusion; the Bonavita bv1900ts. Your coffee will be pre-soaked with water before brewing begins. This process works to degas your coffee grounds. Degassing helps to develop a fuller flavor.

Customer Reviews
Bonavita BV1800
Regular coffee drinkers who are ready to invest in a high-quality coffee machine don’t hold their tounges in the reviews. If you read through enough of them you can tell that these customers are highly educated on their minor brewers.
The Bonavita gets praise for its speed and power. Some astute customers even track the temperature of the coffee through the entire brewing process.
There are some complaints. I have to admit that some of them seem trivial, i.e., the carafe does not sit on its base perfectly. I’m not saying that the little things don’t matter, they do. But you have to keep things in proper perspective.
Should a product be drastically downgraded for a minor quirk? Other issues are more serious, like the machine breaking down too soon. But when considering everything I think that this is a quality machine worthy of your consideration.
Bonavita BV1900TS
Many customers are happy with the 1900ts. When it comes to the bv1900ts, customers praise its upgraded carafe design(customers complained about the carafe design on the bv1800).
There is little spillage. It is praised for the easier-to-read markings on the water tank too.
Still, there are complaints. Some of the more serious ones include the machine breaking down after a short while, or the showerhead not working well. All products will have a share of cons. I still think that this machine is a quality option.
Summary
In my opinion, both coffee makers in the Bonavita bv1800 vs. bv1900ts are great options. However, only one can reign supreme. The bv1900ts is the better choice in this comparison.
The Bonavita bv1900ts has superior features: a 1500-watt heater, including a double-walled stainless steel carafe, a flat filter basket, and a pre-infusion part.
To the coffee connoisseur, these differences, however seemingly minute make big differences. The seasoned coffee drinker usually has very a sensitive palette.
I would recommend that you invest in the Bonavita bv1900ts. It is worth all of the premium upgrades.
